Skornia–Ferris Family | A Kansas City In-Home Family Session
There’s something especially meaningful about photographing families in the place where everyday life unfolds, and the Skornia–Ferris family’s in home session was exactly that.
Marisa first reached out to me on Instagram while she was still pregnant, months before her baby arrived. She shared the kindest words about me and my work, and I remember how much that message meant to me in that season. From the very beginning, she was intentional about wanting their family photos captured after their baby was born, even though she wasn’t sure exactly when that would be. We moved through a few potential dates as her due date appraoched, making space for flexibility and the unknown, all with the shared hope that the timing would work out.
The date we ultimately landed on ended up being perfect, just two weeks after their baby arrived. I felt incredibly honored to be invited into their home during such a tender season, when life is still slow, recovery is happening, and everything revolves around nesting and adjusting to a new rhythm.
The session itself unfolded so naturally. We followed the lead of their three year old, leaning into his excitement, letting the moments guide us rather than forcing anything. We made coffee, chatted, and spent the evening simply enjoying each other’s company. Marisa was so easy to talk to, and both she and her family made me feel immediately comfortable, it truly felt more like catching up with an old friend than meeting someone new for a photo session.
These are the sessions that mean the most to me. The ones that feel genuine, unhurried, and rooted in connection. The Skornia–Ferris family welcomed me into such a sacred season of their lives, and their warmth and kindness left a sweet mark on my memory. I’m so grateful to have been able to preserve this chapter for them in the place they call home.
